Taking High School Credit Courses in Jr. High
As you and your student select courses that will earn High School credit, we want to make you aware of some information regarding high school elective credit courses available at Adams Jr. High that will enable you to make the best choices.
All high school credit courses available for junior high students are for academic credit only; none are taught at the KAP level. Katy ISD's grade point system includes weighted credit for KAP grades. For example, an "A" earned in a KAP course is worth 5 grade points, whereas an "A" earned in an academic course is valued at 4 grade points. All courses for high school credit are permanently recorded on the student's transcript.
Regardless of whether the courses are taken in junior high or in high school, there are no weighted grade point options for Algebra I or the first two levels of any Languages other than English, all of which are required for all students.
Please refer to "High School Courses at Grades 7-8" in the course catalog for additional information.
The following are high school credit courses offered at Adams Junior High: Algebra I, Geometry, Art I, Spanish I, Spanish for Spanish Speakers I & II, Principles of Human Services, Principles of Applied Engineering, Touch Systems/Data Entry, Web Communications, and Principles of Information Technology. These courses count toward the student’s high school grade point average (GPA) and the grades earned will be recorded on the student’s transcript.
If your student is enrolled in a high school credit course and it is important that you understand the exit guidelines for these courses:

If your student is enrolled in a high school credit course and it is important that you understand the exit guidelines for these courses:
- Students who earn below a 70 at the end of the first or second grading period in a high school credit course will be removed from the course.
- During the first semester, no course changes will be made after the second grading period. This means that no moves are allowable for students failing mid-to-late third six weeks.
- Students who earn a first semester failing grade will have the grade recorded on their transcript, and will be removed from the course for the second semester.
- Students will not be removed from the course during the second semester, and the grade earned in the course will be recorded on the student’s transcript and count toward the student’s high school GPA.
Need to Drop a KAP Course?
For students taking a KAP course who decide that they would like to drop the course because of difficulty or time constraints, you will now need to meet the KAP Course Commitment Requirements. The student will need to complete the “Petition for KAP/AP Course Exit” form and all of its requirements including, having a parent/teacher conference, attending tutorials, and completing all assignments for the class. More information about the KAP Course Commitment can be found on the Katy ISD website.
Off Campus PE
Off-Campus PE is an option available for students who participate in an approved individual sport outside of school hours during the week. Qualifying Information can be found on the Katy ISD website under the Department of Health and Physical Education.
